The Beauty of Contrast: How It Makes Us Grateful

Our Perception of Reality is Built on Contrast; White is White by Comparison With Black

I could have entered from the gate near-by.
However, I didn’t, for some reason unknown 🤷‍♀️.

Instead, taking the sidewalk I reached the bridge. As I was walking the walk in the bright morning hour of a beautiful day something caught my attention.

Those lovely white flowers at my left captured my gaze, un-attentive otherwise. I couldn’t help but stop. I stopped and looked closely.

SubhanAllaah ❤️!
We all know what white symbolises.* It is peace, beauty, serenity, piety, innocence, and a lot more. White is a reflecting color. It reflects all the colors of a visible spectrum (those who know physics do know). How true! The white of flowers perhaps reflected all energies around straight into my soul through the lens of my mind that I stopped and looked back.

However, was it the sheer white that seized my walk? Or, something else?

SubhanAllaah ❤️!
White is white by comparison with black, the way light only light by comparison with dark.

The white flowers in the black pot caught my attention, not just white flowers.

I realised it was the contrast that caught my attention. The high contrast…
The very white of the white against the very black of the black.
Small flowers in a big pot.
Delicate petals against the solid frame.
Bright top on dull bottom.

So dramatic!
SubhanAllaah ❤️! Praise be to Allah.

“And of everything We have created pairs, that you may remember” [al-Qur’an; 51:47].

What the verse means is that Allah, may He be exalted, has created pairs of all created things; that is, two opposite types or counterparts, such as male and female, night and day, heat and cold, and so on. This is indicative of the perfect might of Allah, may He be exalted, Who creates whatever He wills. So, He creates a thing and He creates its opposite, which differs from it in its characteristics.

Disbelief and faith, misery and happiness, guidance and misguidance, night and day, heaven and earth, sun and moon, land and sea, love and hate, peace and war, health and illness, and male and female. Opposite yet inescapably drawn to one another!

SubhanAllaah ❤️!
Just a few days back somebody who just doesn’t believe in God was asking me in refutation why God is so imperfect (Audhubillaah) that He created so many things imperfect, inimical to human life. That day I simply answered her what I knew best at that moment that it is the wisdom of God and He knows best.

I realize today that our perception of reality is built on contrast. And, this proves the very perfection of my Rabb, Allaah SWT.

You’ve got to feel cold to feel warm.
If Allaah would have created only cold, we would have never experienced the warmth and vice versa. You have to know what one feels like to fully experience and appreciate the other. This is the beauty of contrast. And, by comparing only you can choose what is best. By seeing evil only one can know how good ‘good’ really is. And, this is the importance of contrast.

Aah ❤️!
I can’t get enough of praising and thanking my Lord. Alhamdulillaah!

I can feel the peace within today because I know what it means to be at unrest.
I can feel the taste of this sweetness because I know how does the bitter taste.

And, this contrast helps me to remember Allaah and thank Him.
“And of everything We have created pairs, that you may remember” [al-Qur’an; 51:47].
How True ❤️!

I could have entered from the gate near-by. However, I didn’t. And, now I know the reason.

Allaah SWT didn’t let me. His wish might be something else.
I saw the contrast of white flowers in the black pot.
And, through my pen you all see…
‘the beauty of contrast in life ❤️

Sisterly Yours
The Might of Pen 🙂
