Seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China for it.
“Beta ilm to haasil karna hi hai naa chahey uske liye Cheen jaana padey”, aunty said smilingly.
And, since then we always call her ‘China waali Aunty’ lovingly ❤️.
Well, this proverb was not new to me. I always heard my elders mentioning it.
“Ilm haasil karo agarcha Cheen jaana padey”
(Seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China for it)
By Allaah, so true!
Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.
Al-Thawri said: “It is the knowledge for which no person has any excuse for not knowing.”
You know what…sometimes I feel that the root cause of all the mess happening around, in homes and in the world, is the lack of knowledge. And, the sad part is that we simply don’t know what’s wrong. Hence, we can’t even fix it.
I was just reading my bedside book.
And, you are reading with me.
“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim. Knowledge makes you aware of what is duty, what is recommended, what is forbidden, how to perform your duties and recommended acts, and how to avoid what is prohibited. Therefore, you must have the knowledge and cannot dispense with it; for on the practice of it your happiness in the world and the hereafter depends.”

By the way…
This famous saying ‘seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China for it’ is not a hadeeth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as believed by many. The Hadeeth is just ‘seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.’ The latter part is just ‘Made in China’…Ooops…I mean…is just fabricated 😉.
