Forgot to Not Forget: Why You Should Not Hesitate Memorising Qur’an Once Again

With the sun this morning, everything came in order, came in routine…

When I was leaving to visit my Mom’s home, my own home, my homeland India, I carefully placed this gift bag high above on the shelf. However, I couldn’t resist. I brought it down, took it out, placed on the table and clicked this pic.

I simply loved this gift. This was not the first time somebody gifted me Qur’an. Alhamdulillaah Summa Alhamdulillaah, In the last six years I got such a beautiful collection of Mushafs (and of course each one has a story to tell) that I can’t thank Allaah SWT enough.

Well, no matter how many Qur’an copies you have, and how different they might be in size, color, designs, style, font, the content inside is the same. Ditto* (Alhamdulillaah ❤️)

And, you study mostly from one copy that is most comfortable for you. It becomes even more important to read from the same copy which has your bookmarks, highlights and notes when you are a student of the Qur’an (well, who amongst us is not a student of the Qur’an 🤔? We all are).

Nevertheless, I was looking at it. It was so beautiful and likewise were the sentiments of the soul who sent me this beautiful gift ❤️.

I wanted to keep it for myself.

“Ok. I will think later what could be the best way to take it into use.”
(Should we take Qur’an into use or into practice? Still thinking 🤔)

I placed it back safe high on the shelf so that dust just won’t catch it when I was away from home, put covers on sofa and sheets over everything else.

I was in India for the next few weeks. Leaving everything back here, my home, my friends, my longings, my routine, my commitments, my dreams, and my beloved copies of the Qur’an. Everything securely wrapped and packed so that when I would come back I could start from where I left.

Amazingly, when I reached India I met someone who gifted me the exact same thing; again a Qur’an and a scarf placed in a paper bag.

It simply reminded me of what I left back in the home and what all was waiting for me, my longings and my dreams.

When I came back home after seven weeks, I looked around and took a deep breath. It was as I left it. Though the dust had settled over the covers outside, inside everything was clean.
But there was a lot of dust and dirt over me. I had picked a lot on the way. Engrossed so much in ‘mehmaan’ and ‘dastarkhwaan’ I had slipped and drifted away.

We reached quite late that night. And, I hoped that sun the next morning, as it would come out, would bring everything in order, in routine.

I was waiting outside for my bus, sad on my way to the Qur’an school regretting how far I was left behind, how much old lessons I had already forgotten, how much new I had to do…

While I was waiting…
I received this WhatsApp on my mobile from my cousin. It said…

Narrated `Abdullah (RA): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “It is a bad thing that some of you say, ‘I have forgotten such-and-such verse of the Qur’an,’ for indeed, he has been caused (by Allah) to forget it. So you must keep on reciting the Qur’an because it escapes from the hearts of men faster than camel do.”(Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 6, Book 66, Hadith 54)

Alhamdulillah for this reminder! We only forget verses as Allah wills it and in that is the wisdom and reminder to keep reciting, keep practicing and to keep Allah and the Qur’an close to our hearts. Don’t feel bad if you don’t remember a verse, chase away your forgetfulness by reminding yourself of it and memorizing it. Imagine if every forgetful action leads to you reinforcing your surahs and gains you a constant cycle of blessings! Alhamdulillah for Allah’s Mercy upon all of us and the blessings of small reminders. ▪️

SubhanAllaah ❤️
I smiled.
With the sun this morning, everything came in order, came in routine.
And, my all Qur’an copies were safe within covers and my dreams too.
